Simon has a broad practice supporting those enforcing and defending their fundamental rights and freedoms, from crime, quasi-criminal civil applications, and civil challenges including judicial review, and financial and business obligations, rights, and associated offences.
Appearing and arguing law before well regarded judges (Privy Counsellor, later head of the Family Division, Court of Appeal judges) in senior tribunals, he has appeared in the High Court, Divisional Court, and Court of Appeal, many times including being successful in achieving purposive interpretation of primary legislation, in favour of his client, and affecting thousands of other people.
Simon has developed argument defeating unfairly applied primary legislation passed as part of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (‘CITES’), then requiring the UK government to re-legislate, and has a case still cited in the current criminal practitioner’s guide, as good law for over 14 years (Blackstone’s).
Approachable, empathetic, and client focused, Simon is an experienced black letter law and jury trial barrister. Simon practiced from London Chambers and was called to the Bar of England & Wales in 2005, before which he read physics.
Simon was called to the Guernsey Bar in 2026 and was filmed for a short French television documentary on Norman Customary Law. Together with others, he now plans to write an article on a particular aspect relevant to his current practice.
